Organizing the European Design Awards Festival
In June, Ljubljana hosted the European Design Awards Festival — a vibrant week filled with diverse events: a studio tour, a type walk, exhibitions, a hands-on letterpress printing workshop, a two-day conference, International Council of Design reagional meeting and the prestigious European Design Awards ceremony. The festival was co-organized by the European Design Awards and Fundacija Brumen.
As a board member of the Brumen Foundation, I took on the role of program curator. This year’s theme, Eccentricity, focused on highlighting unconventional and standout practices.
In selecting the speakers, I aimed for gender balance and placed a strong emphasis on representing designers that are not necessarily based in central Europe: (andstudio Lithuania, Anna-Mari Tenhunen Finland, Andrej & Andrej Slovakia). The lineup included voices from various fields of design: type design (TypeTogether, Valerio Monopoli), data-centric design (CLEVER°FRANKE Aurelija Mockeviciute), exhibition design (Lemke Meijer), digital art (Dorotea Škrabo), graphic design research (Petra Černe Oven) and simply amazing Nejc Prah.
The entire experience was truly rewarding. The organization was smooth (thanks to Paidea), the atmosphere inspiring, and I feel especially grateful to have met each of the speakers in person. Their talks were outstanding, and it was a joy to listen to their insights.
A heartfelt thank you to everyone who made this event so special. ☀️
