Gornji Oder – lettering and painting
I am very happy for the opportunity to paint a sign—the logotype I designed—on the glass storefront of a new cultural space. In 2017 and 2018, I participated in a week-long sign painting workshop, and since then, I’ve been looking for every opportunity to propose hand-painted signage to my clients. That’s why I’m especially grateful for this opportunity.
First, I designed letterforms that would suit the character of the old part of Ljubljana, specifically Gornji trg. The place I created the logotype for will host concerts, performances, and exhibitions—a cultural venue called Gornji Oder (“Upper Stage”), named after the street Gornji trg (“Upper Square”).
The letter shapes feature slightly curved stems to add a subtle detail and personality to the lettering. To challenge my sign painting skills and evoke a sense of heritage, I included red shadows and green inlines. I chose to paint the sign on the outside of the glass to better track the development of my work. I was so focused, I ended up painting for six hours straight—adrenaline really kicked in!
I warmly invite you to check out the finished sign in person.
